Employment advice in NHS Talking Therapies

What we offer

Whilst accessing Talking Therapies you can also use our Employment Advice Service run by Mind in Brighton and Hove to meet with an employment advisor 1 to 1 to get support and advice for any work issues.

The service can help with:

  • Job seeking including CVs, applications and interview skills

  • Planning a change of career or role, identifying transferable skills

  • Returning to work after a period of sickness

  • Developing a Work Action Plan on looking after your mental health in the workplace

  • Talking to your employer and requesting reasonable adjustments

  • Attending work related meetings with your employer related to your mental health

  • Understanding your rights better

The service is voluntary and you choose how to use the support provided to meet your goals.

Our Employment Advisors provide a range of information to help our NHS Talking Therapies clients to manage their work, training and learning needs.

We offer advice if you are currently working and may be looking for support on your rights and how to look after your mental health in the workplace. Or if you are off sick from work and would like help to plan your return or consider other options.

We can also support you if you are interested in starting work, and want to identify opportunities for volunteering, or to find out about training or courses.

Support we offer includes:

  • Advice about discussing your mental health needs with an employer and/or colleagues

  • Help to identify the causes of workplace stress, and how to achieve a healthy work/life balance

  • Support to develop an individual plan for managing mental health at work, using a Wellness Recovery Action Plan

  • Information on your rights under the Equality Act and the responsibilities of an employer

  • Information on ‘reasonable adjustments’ in the workplace

  • Support to consider longer term plans and help to access careers advice services

  • Help to consider and identify your interests, skills, and readiness for work or learning, and work out an individual plan

  • Help to identify appropriate courses, training and/or voluntary work

The Employment Advice Service has recently completed a client evaluation and responses were positive with:

  • 96% said they found the service useful (with 80% stating very useful, 16% useful)

  • 97% said they got the support that mattered to them (with 80% stating all the time, 17% most of the time)

  • 96% said they felt listened to by their worker (with 92% stating all the time, 4% most of the time)

  • 98% found the service easy to access (with 77% stating all of the time 21% most of the time)

  • 96% said they were very satisfied or satisfied with the service.

  • 96% of respondents said they would recommend the service to family and friends
