Research

Why is research important?

Research underpins our services at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust by building the evidence base for care practice. Evidence shows:

Research… it’s everyone’s business

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is one of the most research-active Mental Health Trusts in England.

We have an award-winning Research Department supporting the delivery of research studies that have implications for practice nationally and internationally, and have been awarded the status of a University Hospital Trust.

Participant experiences in research

If you have taken part in one of our studies, we would really like to hear your feedback. It only takes 5 minutes.

Tell us about your experience and how we can improve here.

The information you provide will be collected by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network and will be treated in the strictest confidence. It will not affect any of your further treatment or any future participation in a research study. It will help us grow and develop the way we do our research and the way we involve participants.

The chart below shows some of the reasons participants have given for their taking part in research.

Taking part in research

Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service is a research-active service and we will endeavour to let you know about opportunities to be involved in relevant research (with no obligation to take part).

If you would prefer to opt-out of being contacted about research, please contact us on BrightonWellbeing@spft.nhs.uk or 0300 002 0060.

Our research is varied and could involve:

  • Taking part in a new therapy

  • Completing face-to-face or online questionnaires

  • Attending an interview or a focus group

  • Trying a new drug

Take a look at our film below showing the benefits
of taking part in research.

Research Support Award Winners 2023/24

Research Support Award certificate

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Talking Therapies services have won a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) regional award in the mental health trust category, for their work on improving the pathway for people to take part in research.

Members of the Research and Development team have been embedded in our service, with the aim of better integrating research into the work we do. All service users are now automatically opted-in to our research pathway when they come in to talking therapies services, which means they can be offered opportunities to be involved in research.

This has increased the quantity and variety of research that can be offered and improved the integration of research in to clinical practice, which could lead to new treatments, or new ways of delivering healthcare.

If you would prefer to opt-out of being contacted about research, please contact us on:
BrightonWellbeing@spft.nhs.uk or 0300 002 0060.
