CCI Workbooks - CBT-based information sheets and workbooks e.g. assertiveness, self-esteem, procrastination, worry, low mood

www.helpguide.org - wide range of web-based advice guides on all aspects of mental health. Video clips complement written strategies

www.bigwhitewall.com - a safe, anonymous support network supported by the NHS. 95% of members say they feel better as a result

www.livinglifetothefull.com - free, online, CBT-based life skills course for managing distress, low mood and worry

www.moodjuice.scot.nhs.uk - offers information and advice “to those experiencing troublesome thoughts, feelings and actions”.  Includes various self-help guides covering depression, anxiety, stress, panic and sleep problems

www.mind.org.uk - national charity for “better mental health”. Helpline plus wide range of information on wellbeing and mental health

www.rethink.org.uk - another national, campaigning and support charity, providing a helpline plus information on mental health issues

The Mental Health Foundation has a number of publications about mental health including some 'How To...' guides

Mind over Mood – by Greenberger and Padesky. “Change how you feel by changing the way you think.”  CBT-based workbook looking at thoughts, moods and behaviours.  Covers depression, anxiety and anger.

The Feeling Good Handbook – by David Burns. Uses cognitive therapy as a starting point for dealing with a wide range of everyday problems.

Overcoming Anxiety – by Chris Williams. A series of short, CBT-based workbooks (you can pick and choose which to focus on).  Covers triggers, thoughts, behaviours and physical symptoms.  Also problem solving, assertiveness, sleep etc.

Overcoming Depression and Low Mood – by Chris Williams. A series of short, CBT-based workbooks.  Addresses common challenges when mood is low. For example negative thinking, responding to life stressors, becoming more active, staying well.

LEAFLETS

Health Information in Other Languages: A searchable database of quality approved health information in other languages. You can search via 'keyword' or 'language'.

Northumberland Tyne and Wear self-help leaflet: Access a range of self-help leaflets.

The StayAlive booklet is a suicide prevention resource for East and West Sussex packed full of useful information to help people stay safe from suicide. You can use it if you are having thoughts of suicide or if you are concerned about someone else who may be considering suicide.

Reading Well Books on Prescription for common mental health conditions

Reading Well Books on Prescription helps people manage their own health and well-being through recommended self-help books, because everything changes when we read.

Reading Well for long term conditions

As part of its successful Reading Well Books on Prescription scheme, The Reading Agency and Society of Chief Librarians are launching Reading Well for long term conditions. The scheme is part of the Society of Chief Librarian’s Public Library Health Offer and has been developed with leading health organisations and people with lived experience and their carers.
It will be available in English public libraries from July 2017.
